The Advocacy Department works to influence public opinion in both the Georgetown community and on a national level. Team members lead initiatives such as letter-writing campaigns, lobbying trips, and petitioning. Once a semester Advocacy hosts a Hill Trip where students meet with politicians to discuss policy. Specific issue areas the Advocacy Department has worked on include environmental issues, civil rights, LGBTQ equality, immigration, labor rights, and legacy.

The Department of Campaigning works to get GUCD members and the Georgetown community involved in Democratic campaigns in order to help elect Democrats to office at all levels of government. The department partners with Democratic candidates from around the United States for phone-banking, text-banking, and canvassing events, sometimes held in cooperation with other D.C. area colleges.

The Membership Department hosts formal dances each semester, providing an opportunity for members to celebrate their hard work and bond over dancing and fun. Membership also organizes GUCD intramural sports teams—every homecoming GU Bipartisan refs a flag football game between GUCD and GUCR! Every week, Membership tables in Red Square to spread our message. They also run a mentorship program!

Speakers

The Speakers Department works to bring a variety of speakers to campus to speak about issues, such as progressive messaging, grassroots organizing, activism, and more. We host speakers, from Congressmembers to field organizers, who can provide insight to our membership and enhance the experiences of each of our members. In the past, we have hosted staffers from the DNC, advocates from non-profit organizations, and politicians, including Senator Tammy Baldwin and Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

Professional Development

The goal of the A&A Department is to support both GUCD and its members. Our work includes fundraising, designing merch, tabling on campus, and maintaining a network of alumni who we connect with current members. We host the annual GUCD Alum of the Year Award in the Spring.

The Communications Department develops, executes, and publicizes upcoming GUCD events by making posters, conducting research, managing GUCD's social media presence, and sending out a weekly email to all GUCD members. They field all press inquiries and issue statements when necessary. Additionally, Communications hosts the semi-annual GUCD-GUCR debates.

Treasury handles finances so other departments have the funds to focus on their important work. Inspired by fellow Hoya Bill Clinton, we operate on a balanced budget for GUCD (however we recognize the government need not be run like a household and government spending is good, actually).
